2023. gada nogalē sadarbībā ar Austrālijas Latviešu teātri fonds INITIUM plāno pirmizrādīt vērienīgu un laikmetīgu kopienas teātra (Applied Theatre) iestudējumu Melburnā, Austrālijā, kas ļaus saglabāt un mūsdienīgā formā atklās Austrālijā dzīvojošo latviešu stāstus, par centrālo notikumu vietu izvirzot Melburnas Latviešu namu, kas dibināts 1952. gadā un savu 70 gadu pastāvēšanas laikā izaudzinājis neskaitāmus trimdas latviešu pēctečus, ļaujot tiem saglabāt saikni ar savu priekšteču kultūru un vērtībām un pilnasinīgi atspoguļo latviešu kopienu Melburnā.

Izrādi veidos fonds INITIUM (Latvija), režisore un dramaturģe Baņuta Rubess (Kanāda) un Austrālijas latvieši, pēc nepieciešamības piesaistot profesionālus māksliniekus. Lai veidotu procesā jaunradītu iestudējumu un tā dokumentālajos materiālos balstīto dramaturģiju, ir nepieciešams veikt pētniecisko darbu un intervijas. To 2022. gadā Melburnā veic fonda INITIUM radošā pētniece Mg. philol. Ilga Vālodze Ābele un projekta starptautisko aktivitāšu koordinatore Brigita Stroda, kas veic nepieciešamos priekšdarbus dokumentālā materiāla (dzīvesstāstu) apkopošanā, kā arī vietējās kopienas sagatavošanā šim notikumam.

Ar projektu tiks stiprināta Latvijas un diasporas organizāciju sadarbība, veicināta kvalitatīva latviešu kultūrvēstures dokumentēšana un jaunu vērtību radīšana, kā arī Austrālijā dzīvojošo latviešu vidū vairota izpratne un interese par Latvijā notiekošajiem mākslinieciskajiem un kultūras procesiem.

Projektam gūts daļējs atbalsts no Valsts Kultūrkapitāla fonda un Latviešu kultūras biedrības TILTS, taču nepieciešams papildus finansējums ceļojuma izdevumu segšanai, stāstu apkopošanai un dramaturģijas veidošanas uzsākšanai.

At the end of 2023, in cooperation with the Australian Latvian Theatre Company, the INITIUM Foundation plans to premiere an ambitious Applied Theatre production in Melbourne, Australia. Using Devised Theatre practices, this contemporary site-specific piece will seek to preserve and reveal stories about the lives of Latvians living in Melbourne with Latvian House, a community centre, at its heart. Founded in 1952, over its 70 years of existence, it has brought up countless descendants of Latvians in exile, allowing them to engage with and develop the culture and values of their ancestors and to fully reflect the Latvian community in Melbourne.

The theatre piece will be created by the INITIUM Foundation (Latvia), director and playwright Baņuta Rubess (Canada) and Latvians from Australia, attracting professional artists as needed. In order to create a new production based on documentary materials that has been gathered during the process, it is necessary to conduct research work and interviews. This will be done in 2022 in Melbourne by Mg. philol. Ilga Vālodze Ābele, a creative researcher at the INITIUM Foundation. Together with the project's international activities coordinator, Brigita Stroda, they will make the necessary preparations for the collection of documentary materials (life stories), as well as the initial planning with the local community.

The project will strengthen co-operation between Latvian and diaspora organizations, promote high-quality documentation of Latvian cultural history, the creation of new creative content, as well as an increase in understanding and interest in the artistic and cultural processes taking place in Latvia among Latvians living in Australia.

The project has received partial support from the State Culture Capital Fund and the Latvian Cultural Association TILTS, but additional funding is needed to cover travel expenses, undertake all the necessary research and to start the first phase of dramaturgy.
